Where the 68.8% comes from
The figure the film opens on is not ours. It comes from a working paper by researchers at the University of Toronto, HEC Montréal and ESSEC Business School, covering every Polymarket trade from 2022 to March 2026, across 2.4 million users and $67bn of volume. It found 68.8% of users lost money and the top 1% took 76.5% of the profits. A separate Wall Street Journal analysis put the loss rate at 70%.

Where does Kahyna's data come from?
From the venues themselves. Kahyna reads the markets of Polymarket, Kalshi, Manifold, PredictIt and Limitless, with their prices when scheduled polling yields a quote, and matches contracts by outcome, not by title. Collected venue prices are not currently available from Kalshi, Polymarket, Manifold, PredictIt, or Limitless. Wallet records are rebuilt from Polymarket's public trade history and settled against the outcomes. Live scores and prices are Polymarket's. Our probability estimates are Kahyna's own, and every call is logged before its market settles.
